Flowers and Birds, Tra-la-la

Spring has sprung in my neck of the woods, folks. There are bluebells along my drive to work. (Bluebells and saguaro cacti, actually, which look odd together.) I saw hummimgbirds flitting around the fountain in front of my housing area yesterday, doing that hummingbird thing, where they appear to be mocking us humans for being so slow and earthbound. And a few blocks away, there's wisteria, blossoms cascading in splotches of purple and blue, like escapees from a Claude Monet painting. I love wisteria. It always reminds me of The Ordinary Princess, by M. M. Kay, which I read approximately 50 million times as a child. I keep loaning it out to people to spread the love and never getting it back, so I'm on my fourth copy. (And if anyone ever finds a copy of the original hardback run, the one with the color plates, I will pay money for it. Seriously.)

Anyway, it's pretty and springlike here, and I'm basking in the time before the heat of summer descends. I hope you're getting nice spring weather (or fall, depending on hemisphere) wherever you are!

Dear Allyndra,

When you run out of counter space, do not put the cake in the oven to keep it out of the way. Seriously. Don't. You will forget about it, and you will turn the oven on, reducing the cake to a mess of melted frosting and dried out crumbs. So just. put the cake on the bookcase or in the fireplace or on the floor in the corner, but not in the oven, thanks.
