I don't think Wesley ever got to be the Watcher he wanted to be. He was unprepared for the situation in Sunnydale, and then he was out on his ear. With Teyla, he can train and encourage her with the benefit of greater maturity and competence, and without the Council hanging over his head. I think it's good for him.
