For me, fandom is very personal, and I only write those characters with whom I closely identify. I write Gunn, but not often, because he doesn't mean to me what Cordelia and Xander do. As his character wasn't - in my opinion - well developed, I also don't have much on which to draw in order to write him, as I do with Buffy, Willow, etc., though I much prefer Gunn to them. Of course, the same is also true of Wesley and Fred. I rarely write them because I don't know them. They kind of appeared and filled places I'm not sure needed to be filled, and they were given almost nothing in terms of backstory. Yes, we know a lot about them, particularly Wesley and Fred (insofar as her family, etc.), but do we know who they are? I don't. *shrug*
I'm going to stop here, because I could ramble on for a very long time. I'm also high on cold pills, so if you can't make sense of any of this, I completely understand. :)
