Movin' Right Along
You know how good things seem to happen in a cluster, just like bad things like to gang up on you? Well, I'm in one of those phases of 'good things,' and the best good thing is my new job. I've been looking for one for a year, since I bailed out of my PhD program kicking and screaming. I'm going to be working with people I like, doing work I'm qualified for, for decent pay. How great is that? The downside ('cause there has to be a downside) is that my son and husband are going to be staying behind in Florida until the end of the schoolyear, while I'm heading out to Arizona tomorrow. I have never, ever lived alone, so this is going to be freaky weird.
Wish me luck! I'll be incommunicado for the next several days, what with the mind-numbingly boring drive I have to accomplish, but I'll check in one everyone once I'm settled.

I lived alone for two years and I loved every second of it. One day I shall have to do it again and that's just fine with me. Enjoy it, hon!

I'm actually looking forward to some time alone, but I already miss my family. I'm just a bundle of contradictions, huh?

Hope the long drive isn't too terrible! And good luck with the new town and the new job!

I'm sleeping on a friend's futon right now while I look at apartments. (She's the one who convinced her bosses that the company needed another person, and that they should fly me out to interview - what a good friend!) I think I found a plce, though, so I hope to move in soon. *crosses fingers*

Oh, I have a similar background, having jumped ship from a PhD program when I was part way through my diss. We should talk about that sometime!
Good luck with settling in now (because I'm guessing you're there and slightly unpacked at this point), and I hope the end of the schoolyear comes quickly so you'll have your husband and son joining you, and enjoying this new phase all together!

How interesting that we have some academic similarities! I don't meet may people who've gone for a PhD at all, much less left partway through. People keep asking me when I'm going to go back and finish my degree, and I'm like, "Did you not notice me RUNNING away from that?" Were you ABD? I hadn't quite finished my coursework when I bugged out.
Thanks for your good wishes!

Yes, exactly -- I'd done all the other requirements and was working on my dissertation when I decided to leave.
Still completing coursework is an *excellent* time to leave -- glad you didn't end up going through the other stages if you weren't feeling at all happy with the process.
