I almost might have said this was written by a gay man....until I checked your profile. What a great compliment! I want them to be gay boys, not some weird, girly construct or angsty boys in denial. I think this context is one where they would feel fairly safe to flirt and get to know one another; WDW has a relatively high percentage of gays and lesbians among the workforce and gay-friendly policies in place.
Now how does the ghosts appear in the chairs? There is an enormous window between the Doombuggies and the banquet hall which acts as a reflector for the animatronic ghosts acting out their roles behind and to the side of the guests (where we can't see them). It's just like using a car window as a mirror; you can see yourself clearly reflected, but you can also see through the window. The ghosts end up looking both three dimensional and transparent. It's a cool effect!
