*droops* I just had the busiest weekend of my life. We had a big work event and it was INSANE. It started Thursday morning when I called to check on the servers for our dinner that night and learned that, due to a computer error, none were scheduled for us. The woman who runs the company had to call all over town, and finally confirmed two servers at 3:44 in the afternoon. An hour and a half before we needed them to show. That set the tone for the whole weekend: scrambling and crazy, but everything working out in the end.
I learned several important things:
*Do not try to load and transport loads of heavy merchandise in high heels.
*Do not try to put a liquid that contains gritty particulate into a champagne fountain.
*Do not assume that grown human beings are capable of sharing.
I included a questionairre about the event in the registration packets. Just simple semantic differentials, you know, like "How effective was the blahbitty blah part of the event?" and then they place an X on the continuum. Some people didn't think this adequately expressed their reactions, so they wrote additional responses on the back. My favorite? "Staff should lose weight." I'm sorry, I didn't know my ass was affecting your appreciation of the training and personal development at this event. *smacks people upside the head* Some of the other responses were really funny and/or gratifying, though.
There was a dance the final night, which had a semi-formal dress code, so I put on a nice dress and curled my hair. People kept complimenting me, which was mostly nice, but not always. One man said, "I almost didn't recognize you; you look good." (Direct quote) I'm not sure how to take that. The guests didn't leave the dance until midnight, and then I had to stay behind to help dismantle the room and load our stuff onto the truck. It was a super late night. Fortunately, I had printed out a couple old-favorite stories, so when I got back to my hotel room, I was able to unwind with fanfic. I don't know what the housekeepers thought about my slash when they were straightening my room. *grins*
I was completely computer-less after Thursday morning. I feel so out of touch! I have to skip 200 on my Friends page, and my flist isn't even that big. *boggles* And (this is SO bad) I had an email waiting when I finally got a chance to check it, asking what happened to a
fire_fic story I was supposed to write. The poor woman has been waiting for her story for months! I feel horrible. (Note: this is not a request that you comfort me. I screwed up, and I admit it.)
I'm in a surprisingly good mood today, maybe because the event is finally over. I missed Atlantis, Catherine Tate, Doctor Who, and Torchwood; there was a marathon in Phoenix on Sunday, which blocked off most of the roads I needed to drive on; and some germy person at the hotel gave me a cold. But I'm feeling good. Now I just have to get my
fire_fic story finished up so I can stop tormenting poor
raphe1, and I'll be great.
