Ten Things That Make Al a Happy Girl

1. My new license plate!!! It came, and it says SLTHRYN (and yes, I know the Y is in the wrong place. I'm not the one who typed it into the system. It's still awesome.) One of my coworkers is horrified that my car now aligns me with the bad guys. :o)
2. Table! I got a dining table after nearly a year in my apartment. We reveled in the novelty of being able to eat dinner sitting up to the table, and then we promptly made that impossible by setting up a puzzle on it. But mere weeks ago, we couldn't even do a puzzle in our apartment, so you see how this has improved the quality of life.
3. Walks! I went for a walk last night with a friend in the park near my house. It was a beautiful night, it was nice to get out and exercise, and it was fun to spend time with my friend with whom I don't get a lot of time (even though she works right across the hall).
4. Comic books, new and old! My husband has this thing where every coupld months he takes out the old trade paperbacks and starts re-reading all our comics. And since he leaves them around the house, I end up re-reading all the comics, too. Top 10 remains my favorite (though Smax didn't do much for me. I don't know if it was the art or the incest, but ...meh), and Y: The Last Man is still super cool. And also, Young Avengers is doing one-shots focusing on individuals. Who said Eli/Bucky? Was it
suki_blue? Because I am so on board for that.
5. Things going right at work! I rocked out this obnoxious PowerPoint project, and then I got a whole bunch of stuff posted on the web. Arranged hotel rooms and event space for our upcoming events around the country. Baked a birthday cake for my co-worker. Arranged a babysitter so I can drag my husband to the profit-sharing dinner on Friday. This all adds up to yay!
6. Pizza rolls! I don't care if they're bad for me; I love them. They were on sale, so I didn't have to feel guilty about buying them, and I ate them last night. And I didn't share with anyone.
7. YouTube! YouTube makes me so happy! We got a new employee named Fernando, and while I was solemnly vowing not to sing the ABBA song in his presence, on of my other cowroker revealed that he HAD NEVER HEARD THE SONG! How can this be? Fortunately, there's YouTube. I IMed him the link and made him watch it. Also, da33431 uploads all the John Paul clips from Hollyoaks, and thanks to many lovely people in the UK, I got to watch Ianto kissing Jack stupid a full week before it aired here.
8. Chapstick! I don't know if you know this about me, but I am addicted to Chapstick (the cherry kind). It really, legitimately bothers me if I don't have any. Knowing this, my husband buys me 10 Chapsticks and puts them in my stocking every Christmas, so I never have to do without. I have one in my desk at work, one in my purse, and one by my bed.
9. Tamora Pierce! I know her books are classified as Young Adult. I don't care. She writes strong women who are flawed and diverse, and she makes me happy. I love that Alanna didn't give up her heroics when she had kids, that Daine was ready for sex at fifteen while Kel chose to wait, that Sandry can be powerful and still dainty. Her books aren't perfect, but I enjoy them hugely, and I'm seriously considering ordering the second Beka Cooper book, even though it won't be out for, like, a year.
10. Reality TV Contest Shows! OMG, I hated reality TV with a fiery passion, right up until I got caught up in Project Runway. And then Design Star. And then America's Next Top Model. And Top Chef. And now Make Me a Supermodel. It's pathetic, but the fact that America's Next Top Model comes on tonight and Make Me a Supermodel tomorrow is making me grin like an idiot.
Erm, I'm supposed to tag 10 people, but I'm feeling really low-pressure right now. How about, if you feel moved to share 10 things that have made you happy recently, just do it!
