Of course he would find her brilliant and comforting. I've always felt bad that Wesley didn't get a fair shot at being a Watcher. He made some mistakes with Buffy, but she wouldn't have accepted anyone other than Giles by that point. And the whole Faith scenario was such a disaster. I think if he'd been given another chance after he'd matured a bit, he would have done well. Teyla might not be a Slayer, but she's got enough in common with them for Wes to feel like he's getting another chance at training and helping one.
