Saturday was our anniversary. Twelve years ago, we went to see Batman Forever and held hands and gave each other nervous looks and later pretended we had been concentrating completely on Jim Carrey's performance. Nine years ago we got married in the Kissimmee courthouse with our roommate ( a blonde coworker with whom my husband was extremely close friends until they had to actually live with one another, at which point they became fierce enemies), my grandparents, my parents, my sister and one of my brothers in attendance. I made my own wedding cake, sculpting little roses out of store-bought fondant, and we spent our two day honeymoon at one of the Disney hotels we'd once worked at. The people at the front desk still knew us, and they gave us a free night stay and a gift basket.

To celebrate the joyous occasion of our anniversary, my dearest darling beloved and I went to Denny's for breakfast. He drew moustaches on the people on the little paper placemats, and I attempted a portrait of him. It came out as badly as they usually do, so I didn't mind abandoning it when breakfast was over. There's a little cupcake bakery right on the corner near our apartment, so we stopped in and got cupcakes. The vanilla was fine, but the chocolate with coffee-buttercream icing was phenomenal! I left them in their box on the kitchen counter, and when we got home Saturday night, the frosting had melted on two of them because the temperature inside the apartment has been topping 90 degrees. Which doesn't seem so bad when it's 108 outside, but still.

We went to see The Fantastic Four: Rise of the Silver Surfer. Understand, we both hated the first movie, so I'm not certain why we were so determined to see this one. It was pretty dreadful. The casting was horrible. Jessica Alba should never, EVER have been cast as Sue Storm. I am absolutely certain there are blue-eyed, blonde women in Hollywood who can act. They should have given one of them the part instead of putting the ridiculous blonde hair on Alba, along with extraordinarily fake blue contacts that make her look slightly dazed. And I'm not sure why they cast the men as they did, but she has vastly more chemistry with Chris Evans, who plays her brother, than with Ioann Gruffudd, who plays her fiance. Seriously, it was disturbing. There was a scene where Sue hugged her brother tight and then slid a hand around the back of his neck to hold him close, and I wanted to shout, "That is not how you hug a sibling, OMG!" I restrained myself. Anyway, the plot did not in any way make up for the casting. Not a good movie. In case you were wondering.

I bought my husband a Megatron pin and a Triforce of Power pin as an anniversary present, and he bought me the DVD of LA Story, which I love an absurd amount. Since our gifts to one another barely broke ten bucks, I felt fully justified in taking my man out for an ungodly expensive dinner at Ruth's Chris. It was awesome. Best service I have ever had in a restaurant, even when it became clear we weren't paying for all the extras (appetizers, salad, sparkling water instead of ice water). If you ever feel like dropping a disgustng amount on dinner, I recommend the Ruth's Chris in Scottsdale, Arizona. They had bread pudding on the menu, and I was sorely tempted, but we had cupcakes waiting, so we said no to the dessert and went home instead.

It was a really nice day.

Heee! We very recently saw the first F4 film, so that we could be prepared if we decided to see the second one in theaters. Man, it was awful. The resources were good -- special effects weren't bad, and they had a few good actors despite being saddled with Jessica Alba -- but there was almost no script, and none of it made a lick of sense.

Still, I might go see this second one, if only for the camp value.
