Children are a [loveable] time-suck

Okay, so babysitting my nephew (picture a 4 year old cherub with a mohawk) is not conducive to writing. I wanted to get the rest of Dinner Party up and finish my spring_with_xan entry, but instead I've spent the last two days chasing him away from the fish tank and negotiating peace treaties between him and my eight year old son. I have no idea how people with multiple children deal with them. My mother had four children before she was 22, which makes me cock my head and go "How?!" in baffled wonder. And now my nephew is teasing the parrot, so I have to go rescue him form getting his fingers bitten off and wish, selfishly, for some free time to write.

My nephew *is* absolutely adorable. He insists on the mohawk so he can be just like his daddy, who is 6'3" and probably at least 300 pounds. You should see them together! My big giant of a brother and his wee little shadow, both with their blond mohawks and sleeveless shirts. It's a riot.

Two and a half is a great age. They're making so much progress at that age, you can practically see them learn and grow before your eyes. I'm enjoying eight. He's old enough to hold actual conversations with me, and young enough to still want to do so. :o)
