I've had a bad week. When I logged on, I thought maybe I'd write a post all about it (I got hurt, I got sick, my husband had emotional issues, and then a friend died), but I don't think I will. Sometimes venting and crying helps, but sometimes I just need to think about something else. So.

Tell me three strange things about yourself. They don't have to be feakish, and they don't have to be secrets, just things that make other people go, "Huh?" I'll start.

1. I fingerspell things to myself for no reason. While I'm driving, while I'm walking, while I'm waiting in lines. I fingerspell song lyrics, or thoughts I'm having, or just my name. I'm not a good signer, and I actually can't read it very well when other people fingerspell at me; it's just a habit.

2. I love old Burma-Shave jingles. I'm way too young to remember them (my parents are too young to remember them), but I think they're awesome. I get really angry when I see the Burma-Shave nostalgia merchandise in stores, because they seem to think the way to convey "old" is with a shaving brush and mug. Hello! The whole point of Burma-Shave was that it didn't require a brush. "Shaving brush/ so wet and hairy/ I've passed you up/ for sanitary/ Burma-Shave." (that might be an inaccurrate quote; it was off the top of my head)

3. I am addicted to Chap-Stick. Not lip balm, Chap-Stick, particularly the cherry kind. I feel uncomfortable if I don't have any on, so I usually have a Chap-Stick in my purse, on my desk, and beside my bed. In order to enable this addiction, my husband get me ten tubes of cherry Chap-Stick every year and puts them in my Christmas stocking.

Okay, so now that I sound extra weird, share something distracting and odd about yourself. If you can't think of three, I'll take fewer.

1. My husband works at a university, for Biological Sciences. We hang out with a lot of academics/postgrad science majors. I am a Classicist - I always get the 'Huh?' when I mention that I study ancient Greek

2. As well as being an Arts student, I work for my Dad. In construction.

3. I sing, and sometimes dance, when I'm happy. Anytime, anywhere.

2. As well as being an Arts student, I work for my Dad. In construction. Oooh, neat. I envy the power tools you must get to use.

3. I sing, and sometimes dance, when I'm happy. Anytime, anywhere I think the world would be a nicer place if more people did that.

LOL we install pipelines for gas, so sometimes we have to work on the roads. My husband once made the mistake of describing me to one of his workmates as a *street*worker

1. I work on a reality TV show. It is beyond naff.
2. I once had a bit part in a zombie movie wherein I had to wear a ginormous orange wig and pretend to be New Zealand author and reknown crazy person, Janet Frame.
3. I sing to myself almost constantly and usually have no idea I'm doing it until someone says "Will you shut the hell up for the love of God!"

I totally hear you with the chap-stick. I cannot leave the house without at least three kinds of lip gloss. I feel practically naked without it. There is just no excuse for chapped, ill cared for lips. None. ;)

I'm sad to hear you're having a crummy time. I hope things turn round for you soon.

3. I sing to myself almost constantly and usually have no idea I'm doing it until someone says "Will you shut the hell up for the love of God!" I sing all the time. Some word or phrase will remind me of a song, and that's it. Can't be helped. I usually know I'm doing it, though. :o)

Oh, finger-spelling, cool! In light of that, I'll give you my #1:

1. At least once a day, I find myself doing type-fingers for a thought or a word or phrase. Home row keys kind of action, but just wherever I'm sitting, on the steering wheel, against my leg, etc. I also on regular occasions do piano-fingering, thinking of a sonata, say, and doing the fingering/keyboard positions in the same kind of scenario (steering wheel, wherever I'm sitting, etc.).

2. I not only have zero problem with the grey hairs starting to show more, I tend to admire them in my short haircut. Maybe it's because my hair is quite dark brown; to me the greys look more like accent marks, and I like them. I'm only mentioning it as odd because everyone I know seems to be plotting ways to dye their hair, and I'm all, "Grey hair!" *tosses hair in shampoo-commercial-like-fashion*

3. There's rarely a day that goes by that I don't think, "You know, a scone would be so delicious right now." I don't have scones every day by any means, but wow, yum.

:)

I'm ashamed to admit, I never learned to type. I get by with a method that's a little more fluid than hunting and pecking, but nothing that lets me type things out on the steering wheel. I am, however, incapable of telling someone I'll email them or type something up without miming little typing motions in the air.

My husband has really dark hair, and it's going grey at the temples. He gets worried about looking old before his time, but I love it. It's distinguished.

3. There's rarely a day that goes by that I don't think, "You know, a scone would be so delicious right now." I don't have scones every day by any means, but wow, yum. Oooh, and now I want a scone.

I do that too! I used to do flute fingerings too when I was playing regularly.

Flute fingerings, how cool! I'll have to ask my sister if she ever does that, as she played for a time. :)

The fingerspelling thing made me laugh because:

1) anytime I am talking to someone but can't use my voice, (loud background noise, or waitress come while I am chewing) I automatically start signing, without realizing I am doing it. It doesn't matter that they have no clue...my brain just jumps track when voice is impossible.

2) I *LOVE* olive juice. LOVE it with all my tiny little salt-addicted heart. I never throw it away, I will keep a jar empty of olives and have a swallow of the juice every night as a treat until it is gone.

3) I hate water. *Hate* to be wet. Hatehatehate. If I could do sandbaths like some birds do, I would be a happy happy person.

It doesn't matter that they have no clue...my brain just jumps track when voice is impossible. *pictures their faces* *snickers* Once in a while I'll sign "Thank you" or ask my husband a question like "Why?" or "Who?" when he's on the phone and I don't want to interrupt by asking aloud, but my vocabulary is so limited. That's really neat that you're bilingual like that. Or multi-lingual?

2) I *LOVE* olive juice. LOVE it with all my tiny little salt-addicted heart. I never throw it away, I will keep a jar empty of olives and have a swallow of the juice every night as a treat until it is gone. My husband and his sister have been known to fight over the pickle juice, but I don't know if I know anyone else who drinks olive juice. *hands you an award for being unique*

3) I hate water. *Hate* to be wet. Hatehatehate. If I could do sandbaths like some birds do, I would be a happy happy person. What about oil and a cloth, like Elphaba in Wicked? Since it's a small amount of oil, would that be better, or would it still feel too wet?

Hello, new friend!

I like your funny facts. The finger spelling thing is awesome!! I know someone else who is addicted to Chap-Stick, too.

OK, my facts...

1. I make inanimate objects and animals talk. A lot. It gets to the point where my friend says he gets lonely when I'm not at his apartment because then his cat doesn't talk to him. lol

2. I talk to myself a lot when I'm by myself. I have entire conversations (usually dramatic ones like I'm on a TV drama or something). Often these conversations involve me doing accents or speaking in Spanish or French. Sometimes I make myself cry. *hides in embarrassment*

3. I can do the war cry. Like Xena!! :-D

We have my son's toys all over the house, and my husband likes to pick them up and make them talk to me. Not to the point that I get lonely when he doesn't, though. :D

If you get that into them, they might make good scenes for a play.

3. I can do the war cry. Like Xena!! :-D I've tried, but someone always tells me to shut up before I get it perfected.

I've never commented you before, so here's the perfect awkward introduction:

1. You know those vents at the tops of walls when houses or buildings have like central air or something? Where the heat/air-conditioning comes out of? Well, when I was younger (like from ages five to fourteen) I used to think people I knew were up there spying on me. Sometimes they were people from my elementary school, though on occasion it was famous people.

2. I look people in the mouth (as opposed to the eyes) when talking to them. Something about looking people in the eyes while talking makes me feel astronomically uncomfortable, and if I try to do it I can't focus on what they're saying. It's like their eyes become these black holes sucking my concentration up.

3. I use conversational song a lot, sometimes conversational movie quotes. If someone says a word/phrase/idea that's even remotely like a lyric (or line from a movie), I'll sing it to them (or act it out). A Really Bad Example:

A Friend: I need a break.
Me: Gimme a break, gimme a break.
Both of Us: BREAK ME OFF A PIECE OF THAT! KIT! KAT! BAR!

It can get pretty weird in public places.

Hi! *waves*

I'm really glad I never thought of that when I was a kid. It would have freaked me the hell out.

2. I look people in the mouth (as opposed to the eyes) when talking to them. Something about looking people in the eyes while talking makes me feel astronomically uncomfortable, and if I try to do it I can't focus on what they're saying. It's like their eyes become these black holes sucking my concentration up. I usually only look people in the mouth if there's something about their teeth that draws my attention. Like, I had a professor with the most unflattering and weird set of dentures ever, so I always looked her in the mouth (even when I tried not to).

That's fun! I often sing or quote like that, but people rarely respond properly. *sad* But it's much more likely to happen at home, when my husband and son have been forced to consume the same media as I. :o)

Cheer! via odd facts. I like it.

1. I'm afraid to learn too much about Scientology, because what if I get converted? I've always felt this strange affinity/weakness towards cults and such, and handle that in the extremely mature way of ignoring it and pretending it's not there, much like I learned to get over my fear of scary things under the bed.

2. I've received numerous compliments over the years on my speaking voice and my sandwich-making ability, neither of which seem particularly special to me.

3. Getting water in my eyes is almost as bad as getting soap in them. My eyes aren't uber-sensitive or anything otherwise... I can touch them and stuff, and saline is fine. They just don't like the pH or something?

1. I'm afraid to learn too much about Scientology, because what if I get converted? I've always felt this strange affinity/weakness towards cults and such, and handle that in the extremely mature way of ignoring it and pretending it's not there, much like I learned to get over my fear of scary things under the bed. See, that makes perfect sense to me. I'm a big fan of the "pretend it isn't there" method, although I've never felt the need to apply it to cults. I guess the knowledge that my mother would KILL ME DEAD has always kind of discouraged my considering into different religions, even now that I'm grown up.

2. I've received numerous compliments over the years on my speaking voice and my sandwich-making ability, neither of which seem particularly special to me. I can understand not feeling particularly proud of your speaking voice, since that's not usually under your conscious control, but sandwich-making is a skill. Stand tall with pride in your sandwich-making.

3. Getting water in my eyes is almost as bad as getting soap in them. My eyes aren't uber-sensitive or anything otherwise... I can touch them and stuff, and saline is fine. They just don't like the pH or something? Huh. That's interesting. And I bet annoying, since people don't give you much sympathy for water in your eyes.
